Campfire restrictions are annoying

Issue #4475 wontfix
Gabriel Bales created an issue

Hi folks. Not exactly a bug but the fact that you can’t make camp anywhere is annoying. I keep getting to this point where I’ve butchered a bunch of creatures and my inventory’s full of meat, I’m over my encumbrance, but there’s already a campfire somewhere nearby so I can’t make a new one. Have to laboriously drop something, go to the campfire, cook, come back and pick up my thing. And half the time, the campfire or campfire remains that I’m being pointed to are too close to an enemy or submerged in a liquid. It would be better quality of life if you could just build a campfire wherever you happen to be.

I wonder if that restriction may be there on purpose to prevent players from cheesing the game by building a bunch of campfires right next to each other to roast villagers for their items without angering other villagers. But I think it’s okay if people do that. At the end of the day people who want to cheese the game will cheese it anyway and they could just use debug commands to give themselves stuff one way or another.

fyi since this is flagged as wontfix, you can bypass this restriction by just wish for ‘campfire’. tbh that’s what I do most of the time.
