Here is a save where the contevnts of the roots inventory has/will become Objects

FYI if you succesfully get next to the Roots before the next turn if processes (as shown by one of the merchants updating thier inventory in the message log), instead of an inventory of 'Object' the Roots will behave as if they had No inventory items (Teleport can work for that)

I have another save, with another character, that made me think this ‘Object’ issue was no longer a problem as it would not occur there no matter what I did, but since it is still broken it seems that a network of Roots are, like Moldfella, completely unusable as a pet.
