Auto attack not moving character or working as it used to do

when i Ctrl+A (auto attack) my character doesn't move or attack at all, it just says that you don't have a target, even if you have agressive attacking units a single tile away and if you target an enemy and there happens to be another one the game says that there is "another enemy" so you refrain from attacking/moving

What is the point of this, this used to work perfectly.
