Cloned Follower Disappears

I started a game in the current patch. The Warden in my starting town was a guy named Mu-Mod, who on closer inspection appeared to be a two-headed Saad Amus the Sky-Bear (???). I gained enough reputation with the Wardens to recruit him via water ritual, and things went wonderfully. Eventually I found a phial of cloning draught and, while in Ezra at Sixshrew's shop, I poured it on him, which successfully resulted in a friendly clone of Mu-Mod.

I told the clone to stay put while I went to get him some gear in the jungle. When I got back, I asked him to follow me, and on the next turn he just disappeared. No message, no visual effects. I savescummed to try to figure out what was happening, and asked him to follow me again, then used Wish to Swap with him. Now playing as the clone of Mu-Mod, I waited a single turn and suddenly appeared in another area (coordinate 15, 5 W on the overworld map). If I tried to leave the map edge or use a recoiler, I would simply reappear in the same place. I used Wish and swapped with a creature on the map, and was able to walk back to Ezra as said creature and Wish myself back into my original body.

The Clone is still stuck in that room and is friendly, but is no longer treated like one of my followers. The original Mu-Mod seems fine. Mostly it just sucks that I can't build a funny army of cloned ancient heroes.
