Building zone bug, game only displays #-Symbols

I got an gamebreaking repeatable bug, whenever i go down into an area, from the overworld map or just stairs. my screen becomes filled with #-symbols and i am stuck for some time at the "building zone" screen. Spamming inputs creates movement within these hashtags, and often eventually after 20 or so inputs the screen loads(it doesnt by itself without inputs) but after a little exploring in the newly loaded zone it goes back to the hashtag filled screen.

This happens with new characters, and after a reinstall. (which seems not to clear all settings, as my game keeps everthing, so maybe i need to do a wipe, but no idea how)

I have no mods, but i did have beta enabled shortly before this update and deactivated it after. Any help would be nice.
