Soron has noted a situation where this bug is causing a bigger issue:

<Soron> snailmothers are hard to fight (in terms of the UI failing) while you're using a hologram bracelet, if your mollusk rep is such that "docile" creatures (snailmother) are non-hostile but "neutral" creatures (ickslug) are hostile. what happens is, the hologram bracelet resets the snailmother's hostility while it's in use, which means that even though the snailmother is indirectly very dangerous and needs to be killed, it keeps getting marked as neutral (and thus, the UI tries to avoid targeting it with attacks).
