The stat changes that happen from wearing the prism over time are permanent even after removal, and wearing the prism again will double them as the prism itself grew stronger (if you wait until the prism grants +11 Ego, after removal you will have permanent +10 Ego. Wearing it again adds up to +21 Ego).
