n-pointed asterisk duplication issue

I was given a 10-pointed asterisk which allows an extra proselytised follower. Shortly after getting it, I found a clone of myself in a cryo-chamber. So I now have two 10-pointed asterisks, apparently identical and indistinguishable. But only one of them works (presumably the original one).

(To be clear, my issue here is not that the effects don’t stack.)

Actually, on further testing, I’m finding that neither of them work reliably. I wish I’d had a chance to test it properly before finding the duplicate, since that might be irrelevant to the issue.

More often than not, when I try to proselytise a second follower, the first one leaves me. Occasionally it works, but not often, I’m finding.

Wanna look into the flakey behavior described in the comments? Let’s just assume 2 asterisks functions identically as one.
