Scavenger Follower Pathfinding Issue

My baetyl boy follower has the scavenger skill, allowing him to track down nearby trash piles and search for scrap. He targets any trash pile that he knows exists and is close enough. This range for targeting seems to be a radius, going through walls, so if there is trash on the other side of the wall, my baetyl boy will just walk back and forth until I give him a command to move to a place that will allow him to find a direct path to the trash. Or I just walk over to the trash and smash it to dust. Attached is an example of his path with the trash circled. Furthermore, the baetyl boy will go for trash that is close enough to go for, but to far away from me for his liking. He will just end up walking back and forth a few tiles between me and the trash, never getting it. I imagine similar problems would exist with barathrumites and trash divining-pariahs. A suggestion for the going for trash through walls would be the range of "going for trash" could be by its path, instead of radius. A suggestion for the walking between player and trash could be making the radius by which the follower will get trash <= the radius by which the follower wants to follow you.
