ThawZone Exception after some time away from every notable zone

Issue #6369 resolved
Former user created an issue

I am getting a "ThawZone Exception" that resets a zone completely (including dialogues which bugs quest progressions) upon returning to any settlement, dungeon, or it might be any zone I've previously explored after some time away (it works normally if I visit the zone back frequently I think). In any case this can get pretty game-breaking by the time you have to return to Grit Gate. Is there any way to save this playthrough? thanks.

P.S. absolutely haven't used any mods ever for this game just to be clear.

This was a common issue when using F5/F9 quick saves in combination with a checkpointing mode, specifically loading a more recent quick save after restoring a checkpoint (which also restored your visited zones to that point). Let me know if this doesn’t sound familiar and’ll examine closer.

Should be fixed in 203.37 onwards as quick saves are stored separately, but old zones that were affected prior to that patch probably still exist in your cache.

One of the wishes from here’ll probably allow you to continue if a quest was broken: https://wiki.cavesofqud.com/wiki/Wishes#Quests

Thanks for the quick response! I was definitely combining F5 with checkpointing yes - and yeah I guess I would load a recent quicksave often rather then return to the actual checkpoint. Good news is it didn’t happen when I played yesterday (after the patch) but I’ll still have to double check after a while.
Thanks for the link too, I already did solve it by wishing for some items and breaking into the compound by tearing down the doors (funnily enough the Baratrumites didn’t mind me rendering their property to rubble)
If the problem persists, should I just avoid using F5 in that playthrough or is it already late for that?

Should be okay to keep using quick saves without trouble, it won’t break anything anymore.

The zones that may fail thawing it is indeed already too late for, as they were broken before the patch.
