Fist of the Ape God is breaking almost instantly on exposure to acid

It is almost impossible for me to save Fist of the Ape God from being destroyed by any acid whatsoever. Especially with the new wine-acid monsters being super prevelant, it's literally 'i get hit or exposed to acid, it shows as 'fine', i clean all my items immediately, and it is destroyed from the remaining dilute acid. I don't know what this implies about items in general, but for such a build-pivotal and unique item to be more vulnerable to acid than my nylon backpack is a huge feelbad. (Obviously you can't mod it in any way either.)
