Quitting the game on the death screen does not delete the save file

I've been able to successfully reload a save file after a death (with permadeath on) by immediately quitting out of the game on the Game Summary & Chronology page by pressing the X in the top right, then launching the game again.

The save file is still there, and I can play from the last save point.

in my opinion this behavior is useful at least until non-permadeath modes are more fully supported
