<flesh-of-beasts-by-starlight> might be nice to have a notch at your current pixel perfect zoom settings, that would temporarily stop scrolling until you released the wheel, then scrolled in/out again. that way you can still zoom out to see the entire map, but still have tactile/visual feedback when you reach your preferred pixel perfect scaling.

alternatively, have a key binding for reverting to full map view, and one to go back again to pixel perfect, so that there's no need to revisit settings to get a clear view of what is on your screen
