New UI ignores background color specified by markup shaders

Steps to reproduce: Install the provided bgcolor mod and, with color text input enabled, use its shader to change text color

Expected outcome: The background color of the text will change on both the new UI and console UI.

What happens: The background color of the text only changes on the console UI.

Notes: The mod is only in order to provide a color template that changes the background color, as none in the base game currently do, and the old method of coloring text no longer works.
