WiFi scanner display removes access points with existing SSID names

Issue #230 invalid
IanSav created an issue

When setting up a new access point to replace an existing access point on my network I found that the T3 WiFi scanner (buried in "MENU > Setup > Network > Network Adapter Selection > WLAN Connection > Scan Wireless Networks") correctly finds the four access points available on my network but once the scan completes the two access points with the same SSID name are reduced to a single entry.

In this case the access point with the stronger signal was the access point that was removed from the list.

All valid access points, regardless of the SSID name or name duplication, should be listed on the discovery list allowing the user to select the most appropriate access point for their needs.

NOTE: Please ignore the skin errors on the attached screen captures as these have been reported under a separate bug report bug #218 .

Reproduction steps

# Add a WiFi dongle to the T3. # Configure the local network with a number of access points but configure two of the access points to have the same SSID. # Perform a WiFi scan "MENU > Setup > Network > Network Adapter Selection > WLAN Connection > Scan Wireless Networks". # Note that during the scan all available access points are listed. *# Note that when the scan completes the screen is refreshed and the two entries with the same SSID are reduced to a single entry.

Two access points with same SSID should be configured for roaming / handover functionality and as such form a single network, so they should appear as a single network.

All my other wireless devices have NO problems with this configuration!

Please explain how this is acceptably done with standard domestic routers.

(I refuse to turn off AES encryption for simplistic low encryption handovers.)

Again, this is not a bug. The SSID of a network can be serviced by multiple BSSIDs from individual APs that need to co-ordinate handover. This is how many modern products work, including Netgear Orbi. For example, the Orbi system I have here has 6 BSSIDs on one SSID. The client connects to any one of the BSSIDs and the devices perform steering and re-association as required.

What you have at your end is a misconfiguration.

Grouping all BSSIDs under the same SSID is the correct behaviour.
