Media player help has poor wording and missing options

Issue #263 resolved
IanSav created an issue

The media player (accessed via the MEDIA button) has some issues with its HELP screen.

Case 1:

  • The PREV button is documented as "Jump to previous marked position"
  • The NEXT button is documented as "Jump to next marked position"
  • The 0 button is documented as "Toggle a cut mark at the current position" These words while probably accurate are confusing. This would be better documented in terms of "bookmarks" for which most users are more familiar. Thus:

  • The PREV button should be documented as "Jump to previous bookmark position"

  • The NEXT button should be documented as "Jump to next bookmark position"
  • The 0 button should be documented as "Toggle a bookmark at the current position"

Case 2: The entries "Seek forward (enter time)" and "Seek backward (enter time), long press of RIGHT and LEFT buttons respectively, bring up the navigation/skip progress bar but there is no time entry screen in sight. (No buttons other than LEFT or RIGHT appear to be valid while this control is displayed. This lack of functionality should be the topic of another enhancement request. All the other navigation options (1, 3, 4, 6, 7, 9, 0, PREV, NEXT etc should be valid!)

Case 3: The EPG button long press documentation is duplicated with the same text of "List EPG functions..."

Case 4: The YELLOW button is documented as "Pause playback". Selecting that item within HELP does pause playback but pressing YELLOW does not do this! Pressing YELLOW results in an invalid key error.

Case 5: It is a shame that help text can not be associated with a number of arrows rather than repeating the same help text for each BUTTON. For example "Open the movie list" is repeated three times in the help topic list. (It is also quite wasteful of buttons to have so many doing the same things!)

Case 6: Help text presentation varies quite extensively throughout the UI. Sometime the first word is capitalised, sometimes it isn't. Sometimes the entry uses an ellipsis "...", sometimes it doesn't. All the help text entries should like like a considered effort to provide coherent help rather than a random extract of text strings from some other context.
