Add picons to plugin download repository

Issue #551 wontfix
IanSav created an issue

At the moment users must wait for firmware updates to access the latest picons.

On many / most / all the other Enigma2 builds they have a "picons" category in the plugins download area that provides access to the picon packages (including the latest versions of Prl's picon set).

Could the Beyonwiz plugin system grow a "picons" area with Prl's picon package available as soon as it is updated.

This would also solve the problem of people not wanting to run the latest beta but do want to update their picons.

All packages, including picons are part of a single self-consistent build snapshot.

The 4.4 series will not receive any more updates.

The 16.1 series receives updates as they become available.

The picons are independent set of data. They can remain part of the builds but should be quite safe to have as a separate package as well. I don't believe that there is any dependency for the picons with regard to the 4.4, 16.1, OpenViX, OpenATV or any other builds.

They are just a set of data files in a separate folder. How can they possibly interact with anything else?

The issue is with the feeds, which are populated as part of the image build process.

The build system is complex. There is no mechanism to automatically update individual packages in a feed. Unfortunately, generating a new image will also pull in all the changes from any upstream sources (for thousands of packages) and as such the risk of breaking a stable build for the sake of picons is not warranted.

It's one thing to keep a current image up to date, but trying to maintain and backport to older images is way too much overhead.

Would it be possible to create a small new task specific feed? The feed could serve the picons and perhaps also any Beyonwiz skins. The categories "picons" and "skins" could be created and populated via this new feed.
