The bootloader splash screen mode should default to 1080i
The bootloader splash screen mode should default to 1080i to be consistent with the rest of the defaults. 1080i can pretty much be considered a de-facto standard these days, just like 576i used to be back in the analogue days. Defaulting to lower resolution modes is just going to cause unnecessary screen mode switches, which are slow and annoying with HDMI equipment. Some TVs (like Samsung) will also switch out of 1:1 pixel mode (Just Scan) and enable overscan rescale if the mode is switched to anything lower that 1080. This in turn degrades picture quality and chops of the outer 5% of the screen, thus causing less than ideal user experience.
Reproduction steps
Observe changes in splash screen output resolution during boot.
