Enable saving of layout options

Reported by dbe: Currently, we offer the possibility to show/hide e.g. certain elements of the sidebar via javascript, e.g. the "similar users". However, on reload, the default settings are applied again. Please implement a persistent storage (at least in the current session) for these changes.
