In the layout module, I added some embedded layout definitions. This was merely done as a quick fix (I just added empty files with a certain file name schema). It would be nice to either create proper embedding definitions or make clear in some other way, which layout has an embedded variant. Also see the Layout class: #hasEmbeddedLayout()
