The discussion form is too large and does not look like a form

In the current layout the form for adding a discussion item is very large, does not look like a simple comment function and could be compressed significantly. It would be nice to have the comment form as a small form, that has the additional stuff visible only during writing. This is very nicely done on google plus. There is just the comment dialogue and when I click into the text fields, the remaining options (send, cancel) appear.
