BibBook: Show augmented posts of users on front page
Currently the main page of BibSonomy is pretty meaningless for a single user because it contains seemingly random entries. Similar to Facebook, I would suggest focusing on posts of friends. Of course this also means showing the profile picture which is very important to make the posts meaningful to the user. Additionally I can imagine a recommender to augment these posts with posts from other users or specially selected publication (e.g. from dblp).
When introducing this feature it might be interesting to make an A/B test comparing the usage of the old version of the front page with the new one.

That's pretty easy to solve: You could encourage the user at registration time to enter some tags, which he is interested in and BibSonomy then proposes some active users with those tags. We could also ask the user to upload some of his/her publications and do the follow recommendations on this basis.

This is to much overhead. Others already have data about the new user and use this by asking, are you Mr/Ms xyz and if yes, would you claim these publications as yours... This is a much easier process to start with, but again our database is to small.

Asking for tags/topics or even letting him choose from a set of recommended tags, e.g. the mostly used tags, that the user is interested in would be a quite straight forward way to get information. Quora does it too, if I remember correctly. And I actually do not see the huge overhead with this, bearing in mind that posting a publication is pretty much clicking and typing as well.

reporter @hotho first post: I would
- start by showing profile images for each post on the main page; this makes it more "personal"/social (linking to the user profile)
- specifically and clearly mark posts by friends, e.g., a blue background for the post DIV
- provide a second / filtered view which only shows posts by friends and is very easy to access (for example in the right side-bar at the very top with nice some symbols) [the system should remember the view chosen by the user the next time the front page is shown]
- in both views I would also specifically mark those posts with the myown tag
Except the second view, which should also be easy to add, all of these steps are only layout changes. What do you think?

- changed status to wontfix
in favour of #2288

reporter #2288 is something completely different. It is about a notification or event system. This entry is about changing the front page. Compare to facebook: they also have both: Notifications and a social front page.
Also, as argued above, the changes are mainly cosmetical and should be a lot easier and faster to implement.

This is a very nice proposal and was already discussed before. Given the current user base and the use of the friend relationship, I think that most user will endup with an empty page which is more meaningless than the current page. This holds especiall for new user which makes it even harder to convice them to use the system. If we have solutions for these problems, I happy to see a new version of the main page.
