Issue #879 new

Groovy syntax highlighting needs work

Hi - I found Pygments through creating a Gist at GitHub. Unfortunately, the lexer for Groovy needs improvement.

Here is an example of the current Pygments output for a Groovy source file: https://gist.github.com/catalan42/5730957 You can see that the shebang on the first line really thows things off. The 2nd half of the file is better, but not nearly as good as it should be.

Here is an example of good syntax highlighting for Groovy as done by GVim: https://plus.google.com/u/0/109111276108676937221/posts/AiFrtcHUUUZ

The Vim syntax file which defines the highlighting for Groovy can be found here: http://www.vim.org/scripts/script.php?script_id=945

I was originally thinking I'd try to submit a pull request to update the Pygments lexer, but I must admit that I'm having a tough time understand the first thing about your system! I have found the documentation at http://pygments.org/docs/lexerdevelopment/ very difficult to understand.
