Visual Map Bug

"If you are in our base with the lower left map, you can see yourself as the white dot on the edge, and if you move around the dot will slide around the edge right. But if you got through our nether portals to where the weird dirt is the map still shows you on the edge and it won't move. I dropped and picked the map up again and that didn't make it work, but if you re log it fixes it." - Elizabeth

Moving around while holding a map you aren't within the visual range of correctly shows your off-map marker as moving. However, in the nether dimension, the off-map marker doesn't move without re-logging directly into the nether dimension. - Flink's re-wording
