Send reminder emails to comfirmed appointments with order status processing

Here it says that if order status is processing, the reminder email won't be sent - even if appointment status is confirmed.
I've tested and it's true. It doesn't get sent. Could it be made so that if appointment is confirmed, it gets sent out? If not, which filter can be used to achieve this?

When appointment needs to be paid for, reminders won't be sent until it's paid in advance, even though it has been confirmed. When COD is selected as payment method, it will be sent in any case.
