Shorten URL service
Move the “ShortenUrls.service” bundle to your Home/Library/Services folder. You may need to create the Services folder, and you may need to log out and back in after installing the service bundle.
Select some text, then select the “Shorten URLs” item from the Services menu.
On Snow Leopard, you can find the Services menu in the contextual menu that appears when you right-click on the selected text. On all versions of Mac OS X, it's in the Application menu (the one whose title is the name of the active application).
This service application only supports certain websites because it uses only shorteners provided by those websites. The current list, in alphabetical order, is:
- Amazon (amzn.com)
- Ars Technica (arst.ch)
- Flickr (flic.kr)
- The Mac Observer (tmo.to)
- TechCrunch (tcrn.ch)
- YouTube (youtu.be)
Only websites that provide their own shorteners are websites I'll add to this list. Please don't bother writing a patch for bit.ly, xrl.us, or any other general shortener.
The service bundle is built using ThisService.
