Formaline: mark tarballs as INTERMEDIATE rather than PRECIOUS
Formaline: remove temporary source files once no longer needed
this removes most of the source files holding the tarball data once no longer needed, reducing the Cactus tree size
Formaline: mark non-atomically created files SECONDARY
PRECIOUS would keep the files even if they were only half-written
as long as the .o files which are SECONDARY are retained, the tarballs are not needed
