Issue #42 new
Claire Massey created an issue

You probably realise this already, but the site isn't working in Internet Explorer. I'm just getting a blank screen.

I think I've found a fix for this now. Will be testing it in a few minutes. Fingers crossed. I'll let you know when it's live. I was aware of this issue as per the email I sent with the link (IE means Internet Explorer) but it's always worth having this listed in the issue tracker. I didn't list it because it was the main thing I was working on.

Verified the fix locally. Now uploading to lancashirewitches.com. Will be checking with a larger range of versions of IE (they all have their quirks) very soon.

I'd like to apologise for this aspect (IE support) not being done sooner. Ordinarily I test in IE simultaneously as I develop I've had some nightmare technical problems with my windows desktop which has left it "blue-screening" with a hard reset on boot and I'll need to rebuild it from scratch (not much time available for this right now).

Fortunately I don't rely on windows for my main work, and Clare just received a new windows laptop as part of an education support grant, so after I finished uninstalling all kinds of helpful plugins which were stopping me debugging IE on her laptop, I could get down to testing on it.

So far only tested on IE9.

No worries, that sounds like a nightmare. It's not working yet in my version of IE (I usually use Chrome and Firefox so haven't updated it in a long while...). Not sure where to find out what version of IE I'm running either (but I imagine very few people will be using as old a version as I am!).

Generally the version live online seems to be working in IE9.

However, there remains an IE issue recorded separately at https://bitbucket.org/cefn/pendle_witches/issue/56/floating-navigation-bar-not-visible-on-ie that the height layout seems to be a bit wrong, meaning the bottom navigation bar rolls off the page below the fold.

On IE8 or earlier we still have some kind of issue, which means all Windows XP users will have a problem with the site if they use the Microsoft browser (I'm sure many don't. Microsoft is not bothering to upgrade the browser to IE9 for them although it's been available for Vista and Windows 7 since 2010) Hope we'll get to this issue before too many people hit it.
