Maybe the ability to mark announcements as private (members only) would be a good addition.
For example, currently the Urgent Announcement Meeting agenda item is private since it is only intended for members. Yet, the announcement on the homepage is visible to all.
The downside for hiding the announcement as well is that it won't be seen by members who are not logged in. A possible solution would be to show the title of the announcement but replace the message's contents with a hint that you need to log in to read it.
Please let me know your thoughts on this.

I think revealing the title of an announcement would be too much information already. Probably what you want is the message that "There are X announcements for which you have to log in. [url=login]log in[/url] to view these announcements".
