Navbar splits in two rows

Issue #297 wontfix
Alexander Goryntsev created an issue

At some width the navbar elements split in two rows, see the screenshot. Jeremy can replicate it on my sandbox site changing the browser window width. I guess it might happen because of language as texted elements change their width and do not fit into 'responsive scheme' anymore. Anyway I think the navbar should collapse into button before the second row appears.

    Hi Alex,

There is a setting to help with this but it is in the wrong admin page at the moment. Under "header user" at the top is a field called "hideinforum". You can search for "hideinforum" in the admin search tool too.

This will hide the tools and help links when inside a forum because of the additional space that takes up. This is NOT going to help in your case as you are not showing those fields so we would need to either get that setting to hide more elements or add a second one to additionally hide others.

So what I am saying is that in forums we have a setting that allows you to TURN OFF some of the navbar items to make space for this search box and that we can hide more fields than we do currently.

I think "Events" is probably the next one to target. This would mean when in forums "events" would dissapar to give you more space.

Another option would be to leave the icons but hide / shorten the text, so we could crop down your "dasboard" string to a "shorter..." in forums.

I am not sure which of those options would work best?

Thanks Jeremy! I don't think that the issue is limited to forum pages only; if we leave for students the capability to adjust the layout of their profile pages they get these two rows with editing buttons, see the screenshot. To say the truth - in my case it happens with Russian language only.

I think the next victim that could free the space in the bar could be either "Events" or "My courses". If a student is already on the forum page he or she is mostly focused on this course content - including events - rather than other courses.

Changing button texts for icons would also help; I was sure that we have this option already as I clearly remember our conversation about this topic. But this time I've failed to find it. Am I looking for something that does really exist? If yes, would your remind me where does it hide?

I dont think there is much we can do about this and we have not had any other reports, there is limited space, using shorter titles in the language strings or disabling features is the only option really, or perhaps using smaller fonts.
