Linux: setting an timer often on and off makes the application hang

An often use of a timer is to set it on, and in the timerevent set it off, do some things (that could perhaps need more time then the next-timer event) and after it, setting the timer on again.

In the attached example the app hangs after 2-3 seconds (click the button show form)

On MacOS it is ok
