I thought about that.
Sending an email every night (like in the old Fire) is practically useless, sending an email for every submission is excessive. Need something inbetween. For example, email every hour with the number of new submissions in that hour (no new submissions — no email). Then again, every grader probably have own schedule for grading and time slot should be customizable.
So, my proposal is this — new setting for each grader "notification time slot" which is the number of hours. If there are new submissions, send an email once every time slot (+ summary of submitters / lab?).

reporter Well, I remember Niklas regretted that there was no way to get an email on every new submission, so that should be an option. It's also good if you use your inbox as a todo list.
I'd at least offer the following options, which in addition seem pretty standard so easy to understand:
- no email
- daily summary
- each submission
I'm not sure how much benefit would give a custom time interval and how much it'd be used. I personally wouldn't bother unless someone explicitly asks for it.
The other thing is that the current daily email has two function: a notification of new submissions and a reminder for old ones. As you said, it turned out to be very bad at both :-/ but maybe there should still be a reminding mechanism...

We now send a daily email for new submissions, considering the issue fixed.
