What is AAF?
The Advanced Animation Framework (AAF) provides a custom UI, XML configuration and a variety of other tools for modders to play animations from a scalable number of animation packs. Additional behavior controls, relationship features, user interface elements (menus) and statistics tracking are also planned.
AAF has some similar features and technical strategy to CE0's Skyrim mod OSA – Skyrim Ascendancy Engine.
Where is AAF?
The latest versions of AAF can be downloaded here: https://www.moddingham.com/viewtopic.php?t=2
Settings / Where is the MCM Panel?
AAF uses an external settings file instead of an MCM panel. As a framework, most if not all settings are not a kind that need immediate visual feedback.
The settings file can be found at Data/AAF/AAF_settings.ini
. Notes for each setting are included within the ini file itself.
I Need an AAF Theme?
Technically, an AAF Theme is not required (read below for more info). But, using one is highly recommended for most users.
What is an AAF Theme anyway?
AAF attempts to give a lot of flexibility to mod authors and users. As a result, there are a lot of complex configuration files that are mostly optional. The use of these files just depends on what you are wanting to use AAF for. That system can be a bit too much information to learn about for users that just want to jump in and use AAF quickly.
So, in order to make AAF easier to install and use for those users, the concept of themes was introduced in Beta 38. Themes are simply a grouping of config files into one AAF mod. By packaging these files as themes for a type of gameplay, the complexity of the files can be hidden. Users then only need to know that the theme they are installing covers the gameplay features they are looking for.
Beta Build
This project is currently in beta phase of development. The majority of my modding time is spent developing new features rather than actually playing the game with the mod. So, there are bound to be many bugs right now. Please do not take it as a personal slight that I would release software with bugs.
Saves that used previous versions of AAF may cause newly installed versions to not function correctly. So, if it seems broken, the first thing to try is running it from a new game.
Now that AAF is in beta, much more consideration will be given to any API changes (if any happen at all other than additions). However, please understand that the API is still subject to some potential change.
Usage
Downloaders are free to use the mod as-is. However, no republishing, repurposing or branching of this mod is allowed without prior permission. No copying of any intellectual property created through the work on AAF is or ever has been allowed without prior permission.
Help Wanted
AAF is designed for other modders to make add-ons for it, using their own new assets along with the AAF configuration XML files. If it seems like a feature is missing, it might be simply because nobody has stepped up to make that add-on yet and you are the person to do it! If you have an idea that you would like to see implemented, let me know about it and maybe I can give you enough information to turn it into an AAF add-on mod.
