[Linux] Visual bug where whole screen turns black except gun which becomes transparent and shows normal view

Issue #153 invalid

I have no other way to explain this but there's a visual bug where whole screen turns black except gun which becomes transparent and shows the normal view. And it usually only happens in one particular room at E1M3b and once you walk out of it the view goes back to normal past one precise line.

And this only happens on Linux?

If so, what GPU and what driver? Can you try different shadow types in the video settings?

And can you post a screenshot showing how to get to that room? It's hard to recognize due to being so dark ;-)

I don't know if this happens only on Linux. But I've noticed it now few times when playing and testing the game in coop mode with friends now that it's really easy to get the coop mode up and running thanks to the voting.

At first I thought that it was about my configuration but I've cleaned the config and it still happened. My current nVidia driver version is 361.42 and I'm using nVidia GeForce GTX 960 4GB model.

I haven't tried different shadow types yet because I don't like the volume shadows but I can do it later. I normally use spot shadows.

That room is accessible by when you start E1M3b you'll meet almost at the beginning a small hallway with lasers and Inmater (guard robot) on the otherside. When you destroy the laser control box and lasers will shutdown then the door beneath where the Inmater was standing on will open automatically. Once you drop down there you'll see what I have in my screenshot.

I don't know what exactly triggers this bug. I think it could be related to the mist/fog code or something. It also might be due hardware gamma (because now switching gl_ignorehwgamma on/off and on/off sometimes triggers this but not always). Or the thing that I run the game in windowed mode sometimes because it's easier to manage other stuff that way and switching from windowed to window mode and back might trigger it too.

Is this still a problem? If you know the exact position to trigger it use /getpos to give us the coordinates.

No, this has not been an issue for at least one year by now. Feel free to close the ticket. If it ever appears again then I'll message you.
