Today 5/24/20 Update tanks performance with shockwave cannon

Issue #270 resolved
Former user created an issue

If I shoot the shockwave cannon after installing today's update I get sub 1FPS performance. It is pretty much an unplayable slide show. Reverting to the 2019-12-22 download from the website fixes it back to normal.

Interesting, what operating system, CPU, video card, etc. are you using?  Is this in SP or DM?  Does it happen in all game modes?

I also just tried this on Pentium 3 550mhz with a Voodoo 5 5500 in SP.  map e1dm2;god;giveall and fired the shockwave cannon and it seemed fine.

May be a video card issue or something; but strange either way. Need more information from you to diagnose.

    Windows 10 64bit.

    Intel i5-4670K

    AMD R9 290

Appears to be single player only multiplayer didn’t do it.

Did you start a new game? It may be that something in the structs of the save game changed and I forgot to update the version numbers to invalidate the old save games. Something I probably should have done before pushing out this update.

Try “cheats 1;map e1m1a;god;giveall” and firing the cannon. That would tell us if this is related to a corrupted save game (what I’m thinking it may be) or a deeper issue.

Still does it. I just noticed that it only happens when I actually hit something with it. So I am not sure if it happens in multiplayer or not since I don’t have anything to shoot at.

Nevermind it is apparently just more likely if hit something it can still happen even if I don’t. Sometimes instead of going really slow it just crashes the game to desktop.

Went back to the old version and spent 15 minutes running around and firing at everything and it worked fine.

I attempted to turn off all shadows / particles / dynamic lights on the new update and the error still occurs.

I have been able to reproduce it now. It seems (only in 32-bit) if you fire the cannon then fire it AGAIN while one of the projectiles is still functioning then the game slows to a crawl. Looking into it. Thanks for the help in giving me reproducible steps!
