Issue #268 resolved
atomicdragon111 created an issue

I cant get it to track my where my character is going, and i have my character (wolfy111 dragons) in the tracking box, but when i click follow my in game system i cant find it. I looked at guides that show where the system that your character is and i cant find it so the only think i can do is lookup systems manualy and see what wh statics are there

I have the exact same issue... Its intermittant, and comes and goes. I have two toons listed in tripwire, and sometimes whomever I want to track, it just refuses to track them. Also, it shows whatever ship I was in a few hours ago instead of what im in currently... For example, right now im sitting in an Astero, in our home system, my guy is listed as tracking (green dot) but it shows me in a Gila, which I was in 6 hours ago, or something. If I leave Home system, it doesnt move me. I tried logging out/back in, etc to no avail.

The green/red dot is simply a check if your character is online - does nothing beyond that.

I would really like to make sure this issue is fixed - do either of you see ESI connection notifications inside Tripwire when this happens? I'd like to first determine if it is ESI not connecting or if Tripwire is failing.

@atomicdragon111 can you provide a screenshot - I want to be sure I understand you correctly. Big full window screenshot please.

Hi Damian. Thnx so much for your quick reply. I will try to do a screen capture tonight with both my eve client and tripwire up/running.

Also, yes i do get the red 'esi connection lost' and green 'esi connection reestablished' messages frequently.

Hello,I have the exact same problem...I can track my corp mates, see everything they map but I cant see my character.I logged out and in, re-made an API key, still doesnt work...I'm supposed to be able to search mask names in the corporate tab down in the account settings but the option isnt even available could that be part of the problem?

@doomwarrior01 API key has nothing to do with tracking your character. ESI handles this so I am going to guess you are not using the feature that actually tracks your in-game ship and location, have a look at this wiki guide: https://bitbucket.org/daimian/tripwire/wiki/Tracking%20your%20characters'%20locations

You cannot search corporate masks unless you are a corporate admin (in Tripwire) and have a mask someone else has created and invited your corporation to. This has absolutely nothing to do with tracking your in-game location and ship.

Seems like you are very new to Tripwire, I recommend a video guide to help get you up to speed until we finish the wiki and add more helpful UI queues.

I recommend https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yqFyFlBK4jk it is the latest guide video I've seen.

I also am having this issue for a while now. everytime i try and figure it out it makes me so mad i give up lol. Im not to sure what it is but i know how to set up tripwire and have used it a while now. i have two accounts set up in my tripwire neither show location or track while moving around. i can set desto using tripwire but it doesnt track me. The weird part is i can log in on my phone while logged in on my computer and then it will track me through my phone but not through computer. when i log in on my phone it shows me my location and what ship im in and when i look on my computer it doesnt.I have thought that maybe there is a browser setting that i could change but i havnt been able to get that to work. I also cant log into tripwire on any other browser but chrome.

I've been having this same issue as well. Worked fine for the last few months and all of a sudden it stopped tracking. I've tried reauthing and relogging tw/EVE and still won't track. Sometimes I get frequent red/green ESI interrupts. My internet is stable and I've changed nothing.

Issue likely lies with CCP and ESI. We'll keep you updated if the situation changes but until then I suggest you try basic troubleshooting tips. If anything, clear your cache and go back to step through the wiki guide bit by bit. Sometimes it can be a silly little thing that you miss.

Just to add that I have started to suffer this problem as of today. Has worked fine for the last year and then just stopped.

I have tried logging out of Tripwire and back in again, as well as removing the character being tracked and re-authorizing it, but to no avail.

It appears that Tripwire just doesn't know where I am as the 'Current System' is showing as blank and the auto mapper doesn't update as I move from system to system.

I have talked to ccp_snowedin about this before when it was an issue for me. If you watch your network activity in your browser's dev tools, you can see the ESI location requests going out. If you look at their responses, ESI reports the wrong location (ie, one from some hours ago).

When snowedin looked into it, he said it wasn't even ESI causing the problem, but that the monolith (ie, the Eve servers themselves) were incorrectly reporting the location when ESI requests it. I don't know if this was ever fixed.

If anyone here continues to have this issue, please check the ESI requests/responses to see if ESI itself is still incorrectly reporting your location (simple guide for chrome can be found here). If you do confirm that's the case, feel free to toss the character names here, and an Eve date/time when you noticed the issue occuring. Even if it's not much, it would be best to be able to hand SOME kind of data over to snowedin to figure out what the problem is.

Unfortunately I use Firefox so can't use the guide above to see what ESI is responding with when requested for an update. However I have been logged in to Eve almost continuously for the last 4 hours, and Tripwire has been on for most of that time as well, other than when I was logging out and back in to see if I could fix the problem.

Character being tracked is DeLlave Verdun. Eve time was anytime between 19:00 and 23:00 but more specifically the problem is still persisting at 23:27 Eve time.

The only other thing I can wait for is to see if the problem resets itself after Eve downtime tomorrow.

I haven't looked at the ESI reporting yet, but have an update. I waited until after Eve downtime today before logging in again, In my last session, I also removed my character from being tracked in Tripwire and then fully logged out of Tripwire. Up to that point, my tracked character was always being shown as being in Korama, a high sec system despite me not having been there for some time.

Today I logged in to Eve after downtime, logged in to Tripwire and then added my character to the tracking process.

My tracked character is now showing the correct system, though I didn't try changing system to see if it would follow me, as the reported system, normally shown near the top left of the Tripwire window wasn't showing anything.

Have added a screenshot (hopefully) showing this.

    Another update.

The problem isn't fully resolved, but it's not now quite as bad as it was. Tripwire is now displaying the correct information for my tracked character i.e. if I change ships or system, the updated information is being shown in the tracked character panel. Also, Tripwire also updates where I am within the WH chain.

What it still isn't doing is giving me the option to select follow me, so that the system window automatically changes to show the sites for the system I am in. I am still having to click on the relevant system in the chain manually to do this.

Given that the rest of the tracking information seems to be updating correctly, this seems to me that Tripwire itself has a fault.

I too can't be tracked, I noticed in the tracking accounts window that show all your accounts that are online after c licking on your name, none of those accts show the J#, or the ship type, just the account name of each toon I have logged in and added to tracker.

This problem has persisted over Chrome, Firefox and a third browser. I have tried registering and logging in with each account, all in a different manner and browser, including an API or just the SSO option, none change my situation.

Tracking does work for me. What does not work with the latest version: the little label is not updated at all. I cant see my corpies, it does not travel with newly mapped systems and it does not show the current ship.

There is no error log to go with though (except for the missing api_update.php referenced in app.min.js and app.min.js.map)

Found the cause in .docker/mysql/tripwire.sql: In table tracking, change shipID from int(12) to BIGINT.

Esi appears to report shipIDs that are bigger than int(12) on MariaDB :>

@tashinski Thanks for reporting the issue - please let us know next time that you are running a private copy and what the environment is just in case that has anything to do with it. :)
