Fullscreen mode makes game unusable

I downloaded the game normally, played fine for a while then decided to go to fullscreen mode to better see everything. The next time I played the game ( as the instructions say the change will take place after a restart ) I get the Title loading screen for half a second then a full black screen, yet if I take a screenshot of this black screen, it shows the screen as normal with the opening message. How do I fix this problem or make it go back to normal window mode???
