reporter Ok. Question 1. What about caesar 3 free demo version? Can i use resources from it??? Question 2. About point no derivatives work on license. Is mod development derivative work or not??? Question 3. If i no sell mod and no profit by mod is it legal to use user copy of game??? Thanks

- As long as you don't offer the files in any way modified you should be fine. It should be legal to use resources from it. But i would keep the extraction to the user. You could offer an wiki article to help the user perform the necessary steps. We did that with FreeCNC before C&C was freely available.
- It sure is. But you don't change the original assets don't you? All you do is to offer an engine to an existing game. (we did the same with FreeCNC).
- The user can use his legally bought copy of Caesar 3 and install it. You engine simply uses thes files. There is nothing illegal on that.
Bonus point: If not already, point out on several occasions that you need to buy the original Caesar 3 game. Offer a GOG-Link or similar. That should keep lawyers aware that you don't want to offer copyrighted material.
