This goes on for a while (beyond my patience threshold ;) It's with a brand new installation of python 2.7.3. Other pip installs work fine. I tried it with "--timeout 2" but it didn't seem to make a difference. pip is v1.2.1.

I ended up just downloading it from http://www.doughellmann.com/downloads/virtualenvwrapper-1.23.tar.gz and installing the old-fashioned way.

    This is still occuring. I've been trying to install via pip for the past 3 days now. Only today I discovered that I could use '-v' option and saw that it's getting redirected. For the time being, could you please tell me how to install the without using pip?

    pip version 1.1 can download the latest version just fine. It is incorrectly detecting "infinite" redirects on older versions, but version 3.6.1 is hosted on pypi.python.org and can be downloaded directly from there (either via pip or with your browser).

    It's not resolved with the latest version of pip and virtualenvwrapper.

    $ pip --version
    pip 1.3.1 from /usr/local/lib/python2.7/dist-packages (python 2.7)

    $ lsb_release -a
    Distributor ID: Ubuntu
    Description:    Ubuntu 12.10
    Release:    12.10
    Codename:   quantal

    Full trace of the installation here (pastebin).

    I have uploaded the most recent version to PyPI. The old versions are still not on PyPi, though, and so as pip figures out which links to follows it (incorrectly) reports the redirect problems. If you wait through all of those messages, pip will eventually download the new version and install it correctly.
