Change 'Export' dialog.
Rename File/Export Pattern to 'File/Export.
Create an 'Export' dialog similar to the current Layout 'Save As' dialog.
This utility converts the detail SVG file to a print format chosen by the user.
The user selects path, paper size, and file format.
When save is complete, the path and file name are displayed
For printable files, the message 'Your file can now be printed' appears. For 3D files, the message 'Your file can now be imported into a 3D graphics tool, e.g. Blender' appears.

repo owner Why do not you like creation layouts?

reporter The intertwining of Layout mode and Export function is conceptually confusing, and difficult to . execute using the current UI flow.
The Export feature under the File menu in most graphic apps. In Gimp, the file is saved to .xcf format (Valentina would use .svg). The Export feature is used to convert the .xcf to a printable format. I think we should follow this standard.
Layout mode is specific to Valentina, and it should mimic the flow of other Valentina modes (Draw, Detail) as much as possible.

And so many people hate this way. :) But you forgot that our format is .val, not .svg. GIMP open and save in one format. We somehow in two difference. o_0 Will this fact confuse user?
Maybe better have File->Save pattern, File->Save As pattern, File->Save a layout, File->Export a layout?

reporter Layout is different than print. We are making these changes to make it clearer to the user. Layout is the last part of the patternmaking process, it should be presented in the same GUI flow as Draw and Detail. Export and Print are the printing part of the process.
This is similar to Adobe Illustrator https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/using/exporting-artwork.html (.ai) and Photoshop https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop-elements/using/saving-exporting-images.html (.psd). They each have their native file formats, with separate File/Export and File/Print features. This isn't confusing to the 1,000,000+ Adobe users. Valentina has a feature to create a layout of the pattern which must be saved, similar to Gerber and Lectra pattern design software. I think this isn't going to be a problem.

I think we can unite two windows into one. And that's why don't like two options Save in one File dialog.
