Drawing curves does not seem to work in Mac version

Issue #562 closed

Hi

I used Valentina briefly in Windows, and it worked fine. I've switched to a Mac and downloaded the Mac version. But I can't select an end point for a curve - not by clicking the mouse, nor pressing enter. Strange. Can you help with this?

    Hi,

What do you mean you can't select an end point.

    Hi Roman

To draw a curve, I have to select a start point (in my case it's my first 'line' so I select the point A). I then try to draw a curve. The instruction at the bottom of the screen says to select an end point or last point. But I am not able to do so. When drawing a straight line, a click of the mouse starts and finishes the line. That does not work with a curve.

    Thanks

    Thanks :)

I used the mac version downloaded from the website. Not the test version, just the normal dmg file. I tried uninstalling and redownloading/reinstalling but unfortunately that didn't help.

Good. That's strange issue, because previously no one reported the same problem.

That would be nice if you could attach the test pattern here. Don't forget individual measurements if need.

Also can you record a video for me? This is of course optional but would be nice to have. Thanks.

I'll do that and send it to you tomorrow. It's a retina screen, not sure if that's causing the issue?

    Ok. Thanks.

    Don't think so.

@sabinechar I think, this is only a misunderstanding of the tools involved:

    • you say "when drawing a straight line, a click of the mouse starts and finishes the line": that means, you use the Point tool (and not the Line tool, as one could have expected), click start point, end point and voila! a line is created - that's right!

    • "That does not work with a curve.": That is totally right, because the Curve tool doesn't work like the Point tool, it works like the Line tool! Those tools need two points to work, not only a starting point.

There is simply no tool to create a curve directly from a single starting point, or I must have overlooked it completely...

:) Form the user description hard to understand what exactly wrong. This is reason why i asked a video.

I had the same problem when starting to use Valentina ;-) - I thought I could simply choose Line tool or Curve tool, click on a starting point and click anywhere to actually create a line or curve. But points are the way to go ;-) - that's totally fine once you get it.

Generally spoken, I think Valentina is easy to use once you get used to how the tools work - but I have to admit, that there are still some of the tools I don't know how to use correctly (like "Special point on shoulder", "Triangle tool" or "True darts", ...). But it may only be because they do really special things which I perhaps haven't needed so far...

I understand you. But i have no time to improve the User Manual. :( I hope this will happens during the next feature freeze.

    Hi Roman and Holger

Thanks for your replies. Adding a curve after adding a line with two points does work - the question now is how to remove the straight line? This will be neckline of a garment, so I just need the shoulder line (shorter line) and the curve (neck line). Picture attached. Help much appreciated!

    Hi Roman

No problem - I think I found a workaround as I can't delete the straight lines. I just changed the line to a 'white' line (under options/type of line) In this way it's not possible to see it anymore.

    Thanks
