New User Activation

There's something amiss with the new member process. The automated email is sending a link which opens a page asking for an activation key, which has not been provided and does not appear automatically. This 'activation key' is a required field, so the user cannot progress.
The email is the same when sent as a repeat email from the user list.
I've tested this with a new 'test' user I've just created.
