Activity file: open in new window instead of popup

With the activity file it appears that the files (e.g. a pdf file) won’t open in a new window but in a popup, even when I select “new window” in appearance settings.
Thus the behaviour when I select “new window” and “popup” is the the same.

Sorry to jump in here. I presume the Popup you mean is the Modal function. If that’s the case:
If you go to your plugin settings, Modal Window tab, Modal resources section, you will notice that PDF, URL, and Webpage files are displayed in Modal window by default. You can uncheck them to make them open normally.
