2D Assets scaled with square pixels in high resolutions

Issue #294 new
The Open Rift created an issue

All of Wolfenstein 3D’s assets were designed to be displayed at 320x200, but higher resolutions don’t take this into account aside from the actual game view and status bar. I’d highly suggest having it so all 2D assets scale to the 200p resolution with non-square pixels.

Aspect ratio correction actually is applied to the menus if you use 1600x1200 or 1920x1200. (Multiples of those should also work.)

The rationale for doing the menus with “clean scaling” is historical from ZDoom. (I guess these days the term is “integer scaling.”) The argument basically goes if you’re running a resolution of say 400x300 then text would become harder to read since the scaling is uneven. You are correct that these days these weird resolutions between 320x200 and 640x400 where this really matters are an exceedingly rare use case. GZDoom relatively recently removed this feature and ECWolf will follow suit, but not for 1.4.
