Road/offroad speed limits cannot be different

Issue #191 resolved
Dan Mangel created an issue

Hello George and Emil (I don’t know if it’s a display or app issue, sorry).

First of all, congrats on the new app and display release, very good job!

I noticed I cannot have different speed limit settings for road and off-road, it always limits at the road speed limit settings (25kph).

See parameters attached.

If I cannot have different max current AND max speed settings on the Bafang for road/offroad, I don’t see any advantages for me…

Thank you very much!

    Hi Dan,

    Thank you for the feedback.

I don’t understand your road/offroad speed limits in display settings show as 80km/h.

Also could you please share for all bafang pages the road and offroad settings?

It used to work. There is a bug in latest firmware: the actual offroad value considered is the min value between both road/offroad display values (wrong). The actual road value is properly considering only the road display value.

    Hi George!

Blist did sum it up pretty good, that’s exactly that (Thanks Blist!).

Road and Offroad parameters are exactly the same, the only difference is in the display setting: I want 25kph for road and no speed limit for offroad → not possible.

    Thanks

I too have an issue where the off road speed seems be limited to the whatever the maximum road speed is.

The issue has occurred since updating to app 2.5.05 and firmware 2.5.23, it worked as expected previously.

When I turn on the display and read the display settings into the app, the speed limit values are correct (eg. 25kph for road and 40kph for offroad), however when riding, the offroad mode still limits at 25kph (or whatever the road limit is set to, I reproduced this with different road limit settings).

I found that when I write the display settings back to the display (25/40kph) after a display restart, and after I commenced a new trip, the off road speed limit (40kph) is then correctly applied - until I restart the display and then the off-road limit applied defaults back to whatever is set for the road limit.

Happy to log this as a separate issue if the root cause is different.

EDIT: to clarify, writing the off road speed limit back to the display after a restart as a work around only works once the previous trip data has been cleared and a new trip has commenced. It does not have any effect as long as the previous trip data is still displayed. Very Stange.

Hi, thank you for your detailed descriptions, do you switch mode from the app or from the display? Also, do you reset the trip from the app or you mean after you start running?

I installed the beta and this seems to fix the issue. Off-road speed limit is applied accordingly.

For completion, I change the road/off-road mode via the app and I didn’t reset the trip data before starting to cycle.

Thanks George for this quick fix attempt. While the behavior is different, unfortunately it still does not behave as expected on my side. Now the road mode is wrong and does not respect the given limit, no matter if switching from app or button. Also noticed switching from level 9 in road to level 9 in off-road makes briefly appear the level 8.

Hello George. Thank you very much. My ride is dismantled for maintenance. Sorry I can’t try it.

I have the same problem with the speed limits. After restarting, it works fine for a moment, but then it falls back to the road speed limit. I will try the solution once I am back from work (this may take a little longer now, because of the speed limit, haha). I am very happy with the new layout, though. Keep up the good work!

I installed the fix and it helped: now, the speed limit changes according to the mode again and it looked consistet. Many thanks for the quick reaction!

Thanks George. I was finally able to test on road, speed is indeed properly limited, there are other minor display issues with beta fw. Will test 2.5.55 once I have a chance and report them if also there.
