bicycle headlight does not turn on

Issue #216 invalid
Rainer created an issue

Hello!

I installed the Eggrider V2 on my bicycle with Bafang BBS01-motor. The originally installed display was an "e-Novation". The Eggrider works fine, got the app running, I can see and change all the settings. I use

  • display-firmware v2.6.50 with
  • EggRider app v2.6.03.

My problem: The control does not switch on the bicycle headlight. The EggRider display shows the light-symbol and when I keep holding the down-Button, the brightness of the display also changes as it should, but the bicycle light remains off. The original "e-Novation" control-display however does switch on and off the light.

I tried changing the protocoll from "Bafang" to "auto". Same behavior.

I also checked the walk-assist function keeping pressing the up-button and this works well.

What can I do?

Hi, can you please share a picture of your bike display connector?

From my experience there are out there some bikes that have 6pins for display instead of 5pin and the 6th pin is used for light.

We operate the light from software.

If this is your case it is nothing we can do about it.

    Hello George,

yes, the original display connector has 6 pins as shown on the picture I uploaded. I have installed a new cable instead, plugged with the 8-pin connector directly at the motor providing a green 5 pin connector to hook up the EggRider display.

Do you know, how the 6th pin is used for light? Does the original display maybe just bridge to ground to activate the light voltage output? In this case I could install an additional swith and modify my cable tree accordingly so I can use the new EggRider, which I like so far.

I honestly do not know how it works. I will close this case as it i not an issue with EggRider

Not an EggRider issue. Bafang displays with 6pin use an extra pin for a light signal while eggrider triggers light by software.

    Hello George,

    thanks for your info!

I found out some more details about the 6th pin for the light control of my original e-novation display. This might be interesting for those, who like to use the EggRider display instead:

The 6th pin in the centre of the original black display plug is connected to pin 7 of the motor connector. When light is switched on, the original display puts +5V to this pin. The motor controller then internally activates the 6V light power output.

It is not possible to use the software light control of the EggRider display with this motor controller type. However, all other EggRider functions work well.

I bought a "1T4" cable to connect the Bafang 8-pin motor plug with the green 5-pin EggRider display plug. I will now use the yellow 3-pin plug of the "1T4"-cable combined with an additional manual switch to send 5V control voltage to pin 7 of the motor connector for light control.

The pinout of the Bafang 8-pin motor plug is:
[1] battery voltage, e.g. 36V to diplay unit
[2] battery voltage, e.g. 36V back to motor controller (= power lock)
    [3] TXD
    [4] brake switch (optional)
    [5] RXD
[6] 5V control power to throttle and sensors
[7] light control input to controller
    - connect to GND to switch off the controller light power output
    - connect to +5V control power to switch on the controller light power output
    [8] GND

Pls. refer to the attached pictures.
