Speed Management Issues

Issue #258 invalid
stefan schmidt created an issue

Hallo,

im having several problems understanding how the speed management works and/or maybe because theres something wrong with the firmware. My Bike is 26” 48V 14,5Ah with BBS02 750W Eggrider v2.

If you look at my excelsheet, you can see my settings, example offroad PAS 3(5):

-Mode offroad

-Speedlimit 100

-Switchmode live data and settings

-Pas 3(5)

-Assist 5 53%

-actual speed 31,5kph with throttle or pas

I think these settings mean, 53% of 100kph results in a value of 53kph of speedlimit for this paslevel.

But my Bike runs only 31,5kph with assisted power, thats 40% less than it should, no matter if pedaling or using the throttle, its the same.

This Value of 40% also fits to all the other assistlevels in offroadmode, they are all wrong in the same procentual amount.

I tried to change the displayspeedlimit to 80 for example, but the speed remained the same.

The the speedlimit values in the displaysetting are totally ignored by the motor.

Changing between road and offroad mode with the same basic settings, but different maxspeed (100/30 in my case), doesnt work as well.

When i change the speedlimit value in the throttle menu from 40 to 35, the max speed for all assistmodes goes down (forgot exactly how much, but it wasnt 5kph) , even if i have set “designated assist: display command”.

Setting the option Bafang switch mode to “only live data” has no effect.

Unfortinatly the maxvalues for speedlimit throttle and pedal cant be set higher than 40kph anyways.

Its still possible to change max speedlevels in the basic assistlevel menu, for road and offroad, with some calculation, but i still hope you will fix this issue.

should i try using older firmware?

any other ideas or did i misunderstand how this works?

Gruss,

Stefan

    Hi,

    Thank you for your message

Can you try to change the Keep Current from Bafang pedal settings from 60% to 100% and let us know if you see any improvement?

Also if you set a max speed in display settings, it will only work only if you have set the speed limit to display command in bafang pedal/throttle settings. If you set a speed limit in Bafang throttle/pedal settings then the max speed from display settings will be ignored.

In the Bafang basic setting, the assist levels work like this:

If your bike can do a maximum of 40 km/h and you set limited speed(%) to 50 → then your engine will do a maximum of 20 km/h.
If your bike can do a maximum of 1000W and you set the limited current(%) to 50 → then your engine will do a maximum of 500W.

In your example for Throttle, you have designated assist to display command and speed limit to 40. That means that you will have a speed limit of a maximum of 40 km/h(if your bike can do that) and the power will be depending on what assist you are and how you set it up. For example, if you set it to Assist 3 you should have around 912W with a start of 91.2W(because you set the limited current to 76) and if your bike can do a maximum of let's say 40 km/h then because of setting the limited speed to 53 then your bike should do a maximum speed of 21.2 km/h.

Also please be sure to have your wheel size set up correctly because it might display a wrong speed on your display if it is not set right. Our recommendation is to set the wheel circumference manually for an exact speed displayed.

We are looking forward to your response!

Hallo, first i have to apologize, my speed limit in throttle settings was set to 40 and NOT set to “display command”.

    But sadly, it doenst help.

i set the throttle speed limit to “display comand”, tops speed in assist stays 31,5kph (i chose to use assist 3 for comparison).

after this, i changed “keep current” from pedal settings to 100% and still nothing changed, it runs 31,5kp with the settings from my first post 31,5kp

wheelsize should be correct, tested speed with gps app.

    Hi Stefan,

In my experience, this inaccuracy is to do with the bafang controller. We just send the assist level you are in so the controller decides max power and speed. So the fact that the assist level percentage don’t match the reality is to do with how internally the controller calculates the limits.
