Speed data without speed signal wire ?!

Issue #82 resolved
Pegazus_LN created an issue

I have a KT controller + Bafang G310 motor + Eggrider V2 (obviously 😉).

I was wiring an external speed sensor to get the speed even if the motor is off.

During my test I saw that with the white wire disconnected the speed was still alive on the Eggrider !

How is it possible ?!

When I connect my external speed sensor I also have speed data but not sure it’s taken data from it regarding the result of the first remark…!

Thanks for your help

If you have “wheel speed pulse signal (p2)” set to 0 it then read speed from motor hall sensors. But then you only see speed when motor is running. Not coasting etc. When you change there like value 1, then it use external speed sensor.

Interesting I just retried and here is the trick.

When I switch P2 to 1 then I confirme the speed data is coming from the external sensor but as soon as the magnet is too far from the sensor it turns back to 0 km/h and surprisingly when I hold the throttle a certain time in the same position it enter in cruise mode and start to display speed again from hall sensor I guess. So in real life that’s not an issue.

By the way the power voltage of my thumb throttle is 0V 4.2V and when the throttle is full open (max power) the signal voltage is 3.4V could you confirme that I’ll get 100% RPM of my setup ?

Maybe your controller change back using hall sensors when it detects that there is no speed, but throttle is on and motor spinning. There is also safety feature, it shutdown motor if you use throttle but bike doesn’t move at all / or motor is not spinning at all. So if you press front brake when bike is standing still at floor / ground and use throttle. motor start to trying spin, but it cannot because you hold bike at still using brake. So after couple second it shutdown motor. So i think it needs to change using hall sensors if external sensor not show any speed and you use throttle. And if hall sensors show also that motor is not moving then it shutdown motor.

That throttle question i don’t have an answer. You can of course test it if you want. Raise your back wheel so it can spin freely and feed 4.2v to throttle input and check how fast your bike is “going” ( remove all speed limits etc) and after that use throttle so you can see if there is any difference.
