The ETK website does not build with the newest version of debian.
Currently, the docker script for the einsteintoolkit.org website is here: https://github.com/stevenrbrandt/et-websites
It builds with debian 9.7, but not newer versions. One problem is that the ssmtp package has been removed.

@Steven R. Brandt this is marked as “major” ie release relevant and needs to be fixed before the release. If indeed major then a solution should be provided (eg using Debian’s default Exim mail server, which will be happy to help set up since I use it myself) or downgrade this ticket.
-
reporter @Roland Haas I would be happy to see Exim used if you have time and interest.
-
Ok, I will give it a try and report back.

Please have a look at the branch rhaas/debian10 which sets up and uses exim. Works to send email if I start the docker container on my workstation and replace the smarthost setting so that it matches NCSA’s smarthost.
-
Had to make one more change to start the exim4 service in
startup.sh

The ET website has been using the docker image in git hash b285760 "etk-website: start exim4 when container starts" of et-websites as of Feb 9 2021 and the corrected version that fixes issues with sending email to einsteintoolkit.org domains from inside of the web server in git hash 5f5a441 "etk-website.docker: do not use exim4 as einsteintoolkit.org mail endpoint" of et-websites since March 5th 202 which fixed these issue.s
