Original [issue 159](https://code.google.com/p/genplus-gx/issues/detail?id=159) created by gora.patrick on 2011-04-01T15:26:50.000Z:

What steps will reproduce the problem? start any sms game. with 16:9 + all borders turned off there are still black borders.

What is the expected output? What do you see instead? 16:9 mode with scaled 4:3 aspect with no black borders on top/bottom

What version of the emulator are you using (official, SVN revision,...)? 1.50

I don't understand your issue. Black borders are expected in original aspect ratio with 16:9 correction, this is the same for Genesis games. This is what ORIGINAL aspect ratio means, you got original 4:3 even if your TV is switched to 16:9

Now, If you want games to take full 16:9 screen area (which looks ugly imo because they were clearly not designed in that scope), you need to pick SCALED aspect ratio or ORIGINAL (4:3) which actually means "without 16:9 correction".

Ok I understood (a little late sorry), you mean vertical borders.

In that case, this is perfectly NORMAL: I guess you never played a SMS game before but vertical resolution is smaller (192 lines) than for Genesis Games (224 lines).

Technically, since active area on CRT screen is approximately 224 non-interlaced (or 448 interlaced), you don't usually see borders with Genesis games but you them with SMS games (even more noticeable on PAL consoles).

You can however still use SCALED aspect ratio and ajust vertical scaling if you want but keep in mind games will look bad that way as they were designed with the 192 lines resolution in mind, i.e making them fill the screen height will also make characters look stretched.
